Recreation and Parks Commission <br />September 22, 1993 <br />B. Draft Policy for Naming Parks and City Facilities - Mr. Bowman stated there is a <br />draft resolution in Commissioners' packets. Mr. Bowman asked the Commission to <br />adopt the draft resolution establishing the policy for naming of City parks and facilities, <br />and to instruct Staff to forward the resolution to the City Council for adoption. After <br />discussion, Commissioner Carr made a motion to send the resolution to the City <br />Council for acceptance and then write the guidelines at a Study Session. <br />Commissioner Gonzales seconded the motion. The motion was carried. Mr. Bowman <br />stated he will draft an application and guidelines for the Commission's review at the <br />November meeting. <br />Recreation and Parks Commission <br />Study Session <br />October 20, 1993 <br />Guideline Application for Naming Parks, Park Features and Facilities <br />Mr. Bowman stated the application is drafted for the Commission's input. Mr. Bowman <br />stated there is one pending application which is waiting for approval by this <br />Commission and the City Council. Mr. Bowman stated he hopes to present the <br />application at the December meeting. Chairperson Rios stated the application should <br />include dates and names of the organizations where the nominee belongs. Mr. <br />Bowman stated he will review the application with the submitting person to obtain more <br />information such as the length the nominee has lived in the City, organization affiliations <br />and other pertinent data. Chairperson Rios also requested Mr. Bowman to ask if the <br />nominee has received any other recognition awards. Vice -Chairperson Chavez asked <br />how often can a facility be named and renamed. Mr. Bowman stated this would be up <br />to the Commission and City Council. Chairperson Rios requested the application <br />process be 30 to 60 days and that the public be notified. Vice -Chairperson Chavez <br />suggested an even longer application time and running the public notice in a major <br />newspaper. Vice -Chairperson Chavez requested the date of adoption of this <br />application be noted at the bottom of the application. <br />Vice -Chairperson Chavez made a motion to accept the application with the following <br />changes: The date of the application development be placed at the bottom of the <br />application, and dates and names of organization affiliations be added. Commissioner <br />Yarnell seconded the motion,. The motion was carried. <br />
