Cemetery Commission Chairperson Hayden remarked that he has served
on the commission for eight years and at the beginning he found the
Cemetery was enjoying progress. Suddenly, there was a debt and he
did not know where it came from. City Manager Young said the
Cemetery, an enterprise, had been subsidized through the general
fund. It had a $190,000 deficit. He said the debt could not be
forgiven as the Electric Department has planned to use this money
in upcoming projects. City Manager Young reminded everyone that
only profit realized by the Cemetery enterprise can be used for
maintenance.
Above motion by Mayor Gonzales, seconded by Councilmember Beltran,
carried by unanimous vote.
Councilmember Cook said she had attended the Cemetery Commission's
meeting where the members and staff discussed, reviewed and
prioritized items for tonight's presentation. She commended
Cemetery Manager Ramos and Family Services Counselor Sainz and the
Cemetery Commission for their hard work and for their presentation.
Mayor Gonzales thanked the Cemetery Commission for their
participation in tonight's meeting and suggested that future
quarterly meetings to mark the Cemetery's progress would be in
order.
Mayor Gonzales announced the time for oral communication from the
assembly. There was no response.
ADJOURNMENT
AT 6:30 P. M., Mayor Gonzales declared the Joint Meeting between
the City Council and the Cemetery Commission adjourned.
- J
HELEN A.
