COUNCIL MEETING <br />JANUARY 4, 1994 <br />A Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Colton was <br />held on the above given date at 6:35 p.m., in the Council Chambers <br />of the City Hall, Mayor Gonzales presiding. <br />FLAG SALUTE• <br />Mayor Gonzales led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the <br />Flag. <br />INVOCATION• <br />Invocation was offered by Chaplain Bob Johnson. <br />ROLL CALL• <br />Councilmembers present were Bennett, Sandoval, Rios, Cisneros, <br />Cook, Beltran, and Mayor Gonzales. Also present were City Manager <br />Young, City Attorney Biggs and City Clerk Ramos. <br />PUBLIC COMMENT: <br />Fire Department <br />Ms. Gwen Brown, 1146 W. Alida Street, read a Petition to the Colton <br />City Council as follows: "We, the undersigned, are residents of <br />the City of Colton, we are concerned that the Colton Fire <br />Department may have discriminated against women and minorities in <br />its hiring and promotional practices. We request that the City <br />Council immediately initiate an investigation into the personnel <br />practices of its fire department. We believe that such an <br />investigation should be undertaken by an independent and neutral <br />private party, rather than by City staff." She distributed copies <br />of the Petition to the City Council. <br />Ms. Brown said she had received a telephone call from the Chief <br />Director of the State's Office of Rehabilitation who informed her <br />that they had received a call from Frank Gonzales who inquired <br />about her status as an employee of that department. She described <br />her involvement with issues. She termed these calls harassment. <br />Mayor Gonzales stated that Ms. Brown has represented herself as a <br />1 <br />JA NO 4 1994 <br />
