Motion by Councilmember Cisneros, seconded by Councilmember Cook, <br />to approve Consent Calendar. Unanimous vote. <br />PUBLIC COMMENT <br />Inland Empire Festival of Beers <br />Mr. Steve Berry, President -Elect for Rotary, thanked City Council, <br />Staff, Chamber of Commerce and BFI for their part in the success of <br />the recent Inland Empire Festival of Beers held at Frontier Town. <br />Mr. Berry indicated that $7,000 was collected and some of the money <br />would be used for the Boxing Club and the Community Center. <br />Attendance for the event came from surrounding cities and the local <br />community will realize the benefit. Mr. Berry said that other <br />organizations have conducted similar events, collecting between <br />$30,000 to $50,000 per year. He believed that the City could <br />realize similar success in about 4 years. <br />High School for Grand Terrace <br />Ms. Moire Huss, representing Citizens for Grand Terrace School <br />District, explained she was present to inform the City Council of <br />her group's effort to have a high school established in Grand <br />Terrace. She said the proposed idea is to convert the junior high <br />school in Grand Terrace into a high school. She explained that it <br />would not pose a threat to the Colton School District. She said, <br />that with a continuing increase in drop-out rates, the idea was to <br />bring the high school closer to home and keep their children in <br />school. She invited interested citizens to a meeting before the <br />County Committee to be held on September 19, 1884 at 6:30 P. M., at <br />the Colton Junior High School. <br />Crime in the Neighborhood <br />Pastor Ted David, 894 North 9th Street, addressed increased <br />criminal activity in the streets, between the hours of 10:00 P. M. <br />and 2:00 A. M. He has heard gun shots. He witnessed a person on <br />a bicycle carrying a load of children's bicycles. He witnessed a <br />strong arm attempt, at around 3:00 P. M., on a 15 year old who had <br />just collected his paycheck. He reported an attempt to steal his <br />car. At a recent day in the park, He said he had spoken to Mayor <br />Gonzales and Police Chief Mireles. He plead for continuity in <br />leadership in the Police Department. He urged the City Council to <br />do all it can to keep the good families in the City by getting rid <br />of crime in the neighborhood. <br />Councilmember Sandoval asked Acting Police Chief Mireles to address <br />juvenile crime, truancy patrol and provide personal opinion on zero <br />tolerance. He asked for a report within two weeks. <br />Chief Mireles assured Councilmember Rios that he had talked to <br />4 <br />
