MOTION/VOTE: Motion/second by CM Sanders/Mayor Gaytan to bring Item 26 forward for a <br />vote as it related to the Urgency Ordinance. There was no opposition to the motion. <br />Motion/second by CM Sanders/Cook to approve Resolution R-75-99, recommending that the State <br />Legislature pass legislation permitting greater local control over community care facilities, group <br />homes and other congregate living facilities. The vote was unanimous <br />PUBLIC COMMENT <br />The following individuals voiced community concerns: Frank Gonzales, Jean Ferrante, John <br />Longfield, Isaac Suchil, John Romero (presented plaques and T-shirts) and Terry Johnson. <br />City Attorney Carvalho provided a packet of documents for pursuing actions in Small Claims <br />Court and suggested the setting of a meeting. She spoke with the City Manager about an <br />administrative nuisance abatement potential action. <br />At 7:54 P. M., CM Grimsby left the dais. <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS: COMMENTS, INTER -GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY <br />REPORTS, INFORMATION SESSION: <br />COMMENTS <br />District 5 - CM Bennett applauded City Employees for raising $5,672 for the United Way <br />Campaign. She reported on the League of California Cities Conference. CM Bennett asked for a <br />timeline of completion for the items on the maintenance district schedule. She referred to a <br />newspaper article about "Safe Streets" and suggested establishing a chapter in the City. Police <br />Captain Heusterberg said they were looking into it. On the Cooley Ranch Childcare, she asked <br />for a report on present capacity and if the program is at maximum capacity, can we expand? <br />District 4 - CM Cook congratulated Mayor Gaytan for his appointment as Head Football Coach <br />of Colton High School. She reported on the League of California Cities Conference. <br />District 3- CM Chastain reported on the League of California Cities Conference. She asked for a <br />copy of the Small Claims packet for distribution to the residents in her area. She requested a <br />town hall meeting for suggestions on use of the vacant Howard Johnson. <br />District 2 - CM DeLaRosa also congratulated Mayor Gaytan. He asked Code Enforcement to do <br />a random check of the property at 750 Canary. Staff reported it had been done this week. He <br />requested Neighborhood Services to send another staff member to the recreation unit at McKinley <br />Elementary School. <br />District 1 - CM Sanders applauded City Manager Garcia for his management team workbook. <br />He invited all to the grand re -opening of the West Valley Park on August 7, 1999. He proposed <br />the re -naming of the park to George Brown Memorial Park. He said the signal at Pepper and <br />Randall was anticipated before school reopened, with the lane widening at Jehue School to take <br />place within 90 days.
