PUBLIC COMMENT <br />The following citizens voiced community concerns: Jean Ferrante, Charles Jackson, William <br />Yahn, Caroline Dyer and Pam Pandza. <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL ITEMS: COMMENTS, INTER -GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY <br />REPORTS, INFORMATION SESSION: <br />COMMENTS <br />District 1 - CM Sanders commented on the Department of Fish and Wildlife's unreasonable <br />demand for a vast amount of land for the Delhi Sand Fly's habitat. He asked the public to <br />become more aggressive and urged them to write to the City's representatives in Congress. He <br />provided addresses and telephone numbers. Mayor Gaytan directed staff to prepare appropriate <br />resolutions stating the City's position regarding the Delhi Sand Fly, said resolutions to be <br />forwarded to Congress. CM Sanders suggested an initiative be started to have the fly delisted. He <br />asked that the Coelho property be cited, again. <br />District 2 - CM DeLaRosa inquired if the Police carried carry trauma kits and Police Chief <br />Crowe answered affirmatively. He asked the City Manager to implement a procedure for Public <br />Works where Council can call the City Manager or the Public Works Director and find out the <br />progress of a work order. <br />District 3 - CM Chastain thanked the students at Paul J. Rogers Elementary School who visited <br />City Hall. She announced a repair list for pot holes and repairs on Shasta, C, D, E and F and the <br />east side of Mt. Vernon. She asked for an inspection prior to the rehabilitation project planned <br />for October/November. She asked if a permit was issued for the lights, at the armory, that are <br />too bright. On the hillside at Scenic Drive, she said the Fire Department's inspection found the <br />sprinkler system was shot. There is a need to install an all new sprinkler system. She reported a <br />successful meeting on the Mt. Vernon Project Area, and informed that Staff would prepare final <br />reports. She supported the action against the Delhi Sand Fly. In response to her inquiry on <br />playground equipment for Cesar Chavez Park, City Manager Garcia stated the equipment was <br />scheduled to be placed in that park, during the month of October. <br />District 4 - CM Cook reported that the street -sweeper will be in downtown Colton on a regular <br />basis to keep the area neat. She thanked the City's firemen for keeping Firemen's block clean. <br />She asked for the public's cooperation in keeping the area clean. On August 23, 1999, sixty third <br />grade students from Paul Rogers Elementary School toured City facilities. She shared the thank <br />you letter received from the students. <br />District 5 - CM Bennett asked that staff be directed to prepare an initiative for circulation <br />regarding the Delhi Sand Fly. She asked for implementation of Moreno Valley's street -sweepers <br />program: Street -sweepers are accompanied by an official car, with flashing yellow lights, that <br />issues citations to vehicles parked on the streets designated for cleaning. CM Cook said the <br />Traffic Committee was studying this issue and a resolution was forthcoming.
