(11) CUA/Personnel/Wastewater - Approved the request for recruitment and ratification of <br />employee appointment to the full-time authorized position of Wastewater Operator II. <br />(11A) Grant - Approved and adopted a resolution authorizing the submittal of a public works <br />and economic development grant to the Economic Development Administration and <br />authorizing the City Manager or Redevelopment Director to execute all necessary <br />documents pertaining to the EDA Grant, RESOLUTION NO. R-37-01. <br />CITY TREASURER'S REPORT <br />Reports for January and February 2001 <br />MOTION/VOTE: Motion/second by CM Sanders/Zamora to receive and file the City <br />Treasurer's reports for January and February 2001 carried upon unanimous vote. <br />STAFF REPORTS: <br />SAFETY DEPARTMENTS DIRECTORS' REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Annual Reports by Fire Department and Police Department <br />Police Chief Heusterberg highlighted the following Police Department activities and <br />achievements: Grants, new technology (lap tops from desk to vehicles), awards, citizen <br />volunteers, Part One Crimes; crime statistics; and, the third place win in the relay Baker to Vegas <br />run. <br />Fire Chief Hendrix highlighted the following Fire Department activities and achievements: <br />Emergency response in the fire demand zone; statewide mutual aid system; disaster preparedness; <br />CARE and RACES; revenue enhancements; grant; and, citizen volunteers. <br />UTILITIES DIRECTOR'S REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Electric Power Resource Strategic Plan Update <br />Utility Director Thomas Clarke reported on the current generation/supply; the concerns to meet <br />the summer demand; the termination of contracts and the opportunity for growth. He described <br />the Colton Public Utilities' Strategic Plan. A question and answer period followed on the use of <br />methane gas, submit support for Senate Bills 5X, 4 and 39, rate stabilization, off-peak customers, <br />reorganization of staff, spot marketing, rate increases on present contract, stock market tracking <br />and price forecasts, 1OMW block and sale of excess, and the urgent need to attend legislative days <br />in Sacramento. <br />CITY MANAGER'S REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />CITY ATTORNEY'S REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />CLOSED SESSION: <br />City Council Mins May 1, 2001 4 <br />
