"Archeology" means the study of ancient peoples and customs <br />as shown by monuments, sites, implements, inscriptions, and relics. <br />5. "Certificate of Appropriateness" is the permit granted after <br />review by the Historic Preservation Commission, for applications to alter, <br />demolish, move, or subdivide a historic structure or resource, or for new <br />construction on the site of a historic resource. All alterations and <br />enhancements to historical structures or resources shall be consistent with <br />Historical Preservation as deemed appropriate by the Commission and shall <br />be verified through the Certificate of Appropriateness by the Historical <br />Commission and the City of Colton Liaison Officer to the Commission. <br />6. "Certificate of Hardship" is a permit to alter, move, or subdivide <br />granted by the Historic Preservation Commission because of extreme <br />privation or adversity and in accordance with the procedure and findings in <br />this Ordinance. <br />7. "Commission" refers to the Historic Preservation Commission. <br />8. "Cultural Resource" means improvements, buildings, structures, <br />signs, features, sites, places, areas, or other objects of scientific, aesthetic, <br />educational, cultural, architectural, or historical significance to the citizens of <br />the City. <br />9. "Day" means calendar day, including all weekend days and <br />holidays. <br />10. "Demolition" means the act or process of wrecking or <br />destroying, specifically destruction of a historic resource or a major portion <br />of a historic resource, including natural features, trees, agricultural areas, as <br />well as exterior architectural features. <br />11. "Design Guidelines" are principles contained in a document <br />which illustrate appropriate and inappropriate methods of rehabilitation and <br />construction. The purpose of using Design Guidelines is to help decision- <br />making with regard to retaining the scale, pattern and historical character of <br />a structure or district. The Design Guidelines will be titled City of Colton <br />Historic Preservation Design Manual. <br />KI <br />
