R-3-89
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COLTON SUPPORTING RECLASSIFICATION OF THE I-10
FREEWAY CORRIDOR TO A "LANDSCAPE CORRIDOR"
WHEREAS, the City of Colton strongly supports reclassi-
fication of the I-10 Freeway Corridor from Etiwanda Boulevard
to Ford Street, Redlands, to a "Landscape Corridor"; and
WHEREAS, the City of Colton opposes removal of 200
eucalyptus trees and trimming and drop crotching of 100
additional trees along the north and south side of the I-10
Corridor between Etiwanda and Rancho Avenue; and
WHEREAS, these trees aesthetically enhance the corridor
and are of great value as a wind barrier; and
WHEREAS, City officials look forward to meeting with
CalTrans representatives to develop an agreeable plan to
beautify the corridor which leads into Colton and neighboring
cities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Colton is eager to meet with the
County and local cities regarding the adoption of a uniform
sign ordinance which also improves the freeway appearance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Colton urges the California Transportation
Commission to grant its request to reclassify the I-10 Free-
way Corridor from Etiwanda Boulevard to Ford Street, Redlands,
as a "Landscape Corridor" in the interests of natural preser-
vation and economic development.
