R-37-90 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF COLTON SUPPORTING COLTON AS THE <br />INLAND EMPIRE STOP OF THE SUPER SPEED TRAIN <br />WHEREAS, in 1988, the states of California and Nevada resolved to <br />jointly pursue the development of a privately -built -and -operated super -speed <br />ground transportation system (at least 180 MPH) which has a first project from <br />Southern California to the Las Vegas Valley. Other links could be built in <br />phases throughout the Pacific Southwest; and, <br />WHEREAS, on March 28, 1990, the East Valley Coalition passed and <br />adopted a motion that the East Valley Coalition support an intermediate stop <br />of the proposed super -speed train in Colton; and, <br />WHEREAS, Colton is the traditional railroad "Hub City" where all rail <br />lines in Southern California converge in the Inland Empire of Riverside and <br />San Bernardino; and, <br />WHEREAS, Colton is centrally located and rail facilities are existing <br />and available so that convenient service can be provided at an early date to a <br />maximum rider population. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Colton, California, <br />resolves that it endorses, supports and encourages the making of Colton as the <br />Inland Empire stop of the proposed super -speed train. <br />IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Colton favors the proposed <br />development and adopts as the policy of the City to cooperate with the <br />California -Nevada Super Speed Ground Transportation Commission in the accom- <br />plishment of its objective. <br />ADOPTED: May 1 <br />ATTEST: <br />City Clerk <br />1990 <br />r;vre � W. <br />
