R-84-90 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF COLTON SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF AB 3050 <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton is committed to <br />recycling and waste reduction plans and programs in order to meet the re- <br />quirements of the California Integrated Solid Waste Management and Recycling <br />Act (AB 939, 1989); and, <br />WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 3050 by Assembly Member Burt Margolin would <br />provide a financial incentive for the collection for recycling of the more <br />than 325,000 tons of wine and liquor containers littered and landfilled in <br />California annually; and, <br />WHEREAS, the total cost to local government in California for the <br />collection and disposal of wine and liquor bottles is estimated at more than <br />$20 million annually; and, <br />WHEREAS, in the months since consumer refund values were increased to <br />two -for -a -nickel under California's beverage container recycling program <br />recycling rates have increased significantly; and, <br />WHEREAS, the enactment of AB 3050 will assist the City of Colton in <br />meeting the objectives of the California Integrated Solid Waste Management <br />and Recycling Act. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of <br />Colton does hereby: <br />1. Support Assembly Bill 3050. <br />2. Convey our support for AB 3050 to Assembly Member Burt Margolin, <br />our Assembly and State Senate Representatives, Senator Dan <br />McCorquodale, Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Wildlife <br />Committee, and the California League of Cities and County <br />Supervisors Association of California, and Californians Against <br />Waste (CAW). <br />PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 17th day of July, 1990. <br />HELEN RAMOS <br />City Clerk <br />FRANK A.
