R-84-90 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF AB 3050 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton is committed to recycling and waste reduction plans and programs in order to meet the re- quirements of the California Integrated Solid Waste Management and Recycling Act (AB 939, 1989); and, WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 3050 by Assembly Member Burt Margolin would provide a financial incentive for the collection for recycling of the more than 325,000 tons of wine and liquor containers littered and landfilled in California annually; and, WHEREAS, the total cost to local government in California for the collection and disposal of wine and liquor bottles is estimated at more than $20 million annually; and, WHEREAS, in the months since consumer refund values were increased to two -for -a -nickel under California's beverage container recycling program recycling rates have increased significantly; and, WHEREAS, the enactment of AB 3050 will assist the City of Colton in meeting the objectives of the California Integrated Solid Waste Management and Recycling Act. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Colton does hereby: 1. Support Assembly Bill 3050. 2. Convey our support for AB 3050 to Assembly Member Burt Margolin, our Assembly and State Senate Representatives, Senator Dan McCorquodale, Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Wildlife Committee, and the California League of Cities and County Supervisors Association of California, and Californians Against Waste (CAW).
