R-85-90 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF COLTON SUPPORTING <br />AB 1490 <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton is committed to <br />recycling and waste reduction plans and programs in order to meet the <br />requirements of the California Integrated Solid Waste Management and Recycling <br />Act (AB 939, 1989); and, <br />WHEREAS, California's Beverage Container Recycling law has achieved an <br />unprecedented level of success, resulting in the collection for recycling of <br />a record number of glass containers; and, <br />WHEREAS, this increased collection of glass combined with artificially <br />high scrap prices initiated by the glass industry have resulted in a supply <br />of recycled glass greater than the current demand; and, <br />WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 1490 by Assembly Member Byron Sher would, if <br />adopted, create a financial incentive for California glass container <br />manufacturers to utilized recycled glass in the manufacture of new glass <br />containers. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of <br />Colton does hereby: <br />1. Support Assembly Bill 1490. <br />2. Convey our support for AB 1490 to Assembly Member Byron Sher, our <br />Assembly and State Senate Representatives, Senator Dan McCorquodale, <br />Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Wildlife Committee, and <br />the California League of Cities, County Supervisors Association of <br />California and Californians Against Waste. <br />PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 17th day of July, 1990. <br />ATTEST: <br />HELEN RAMOS <br />City Clerk <br />
