R-86-90 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF AB 2622 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton is committed to recycling and waste reduction plans and programs in order to meet the re- quirements of the California Integrated Solid Waste Management and Recycling Act (AB 939, 1989); and, WHEREAS, a key to the long term success of recycling in California in- cludes a balanced strategy of increasing recycled material supply through collection programs, while stimulating material demand through thoughtful recycled material market development efforts; and, WHEREAS, the Legislature and Governor in 1989 adopted AB 1305, a successful recycled newsprint market development strategy that consisted of mandating minimum levels of recycled content in newspaper; and, WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 2622 by Assembly Member Delaine Eastin would, if adopted apply a similiar minimum recycled content mandate on all glass containers sold in this state. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Colton does hereby: 1. Support Assembly Bill 2622 with the following minimum content requirements for all glass containers sold in this state: 25% postconsumer 400 " 60% " 70% " recycled content by 11 11 1993 1995 1997 1999 2. Convey our support for AB 2622 to Assembly Member Delaine Eastin, our Assembly and State Senate Representatives, Senator Dan McCorquodale, Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Wildlife Committee, the California League of Cities, County Supervisors Association of California and Californians Against Waste.
