R-86-90 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF COLTON SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF AB 2622 <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton is committed to <br />recycling and waste reduction plans and programs in order to meet the re- <br />quirements of the California Integrated Solid Waste Management and Recycling <br />Act (AB 939, 1989); and, <br />WHEREAS, a key to the long term success of recycling in California in- <br />cludes a balanced strategy of increasing recycled material supply through <br />collection programs, while stimulating material demand through thoughtful <br />recycled material market development efforts; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Legislature and Governor in 1989 adopted AB 1305, a <br />successful recycled newsprint market development strategy that consisted of <br />mandating minimum levels of recycled content in newspaper; and, <br />WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 2622 by Assembly Member Delaine Eastin would, if <br />adopted apply a similiar minimum recycled content mandate on all glass <br />containers sold in this state. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of <br />Colton does hereby: <br />1. Support Assembly Bill 2622 with the following minimum content <br />requirements for all glass containers sold in this state: <br />25% postconsumer <br />400 " <br />60% " <br />70% " <br />recycled content by <br />11 11 <br />1993 <br />1995 <br />1997 <br />1999 <br />2. Convey our support for AB 2622 to Assembly Member Delaine Eastin, <br />our Assembly and State Senate Representatives, Senator Dan <br />McCorquodale, Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Wildlife <br />Committee, the California League of Cities, County Supervisors <br />Association of California and Californians Against Waste. <br />PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 17th day of July 1990. <br />ATTEST: <br />V a <br />HELEN RAMOS <br />City Clerk <br />I -RANK A.
