R-101-92 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF COLTON REQUESTING THE COUNTY BOARD OF <br />SUPERVISORS TO ESTABLISH A VEHICLE FEE <br />PURSUANT TO CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE <br />SECTION 9250.14. <br />WHEREAS, the State Legislature passed Senate Bill 2139 which <br />became law on January 1, 1991, subsequently codified as <br />California Vehicle Code Section 9250.14; and <br />WHEREAS, California Vehicle Code Section 9250.14 provides <br />that upon formal request by a County Board of Supervisors, the <br />Department of Motor Vehicles may be requested to collect a $1.00 <br />fee from every motor vehicle registered within that county; and <br />WHEREAS, The San Bernardino County Police Chiefs and Sheriff <br />Association has determined that a regionalized approach would <br />best serve the needs of all residents within the county and that <br />the funds collected should be used to investigate and prosecute <br />vehicle theft crimes and educate citizens about vehicle theft <br />crimes; and <br />WHEREAS, in the City of Colton, auto theft crimes has <br />increased 46% between 1988 and 1992. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Colton hereby <br />requests the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to <br />formally request that the California Department of Motor Vehicles <br />
