RECEPTIONISTJTELEPHONE OPERATOR <br />DEFINITION <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />Under general supervision, operates a central telephone system and <br />receives City calls; provides general information and/or routes <br />calls to the appropriate City department; receives and directs <br />visitors, or provides routine assistance; performs a variety of <br />routine clerical tasks. <br />CLASS CHARACTERISTICS <br />This is a single position class which provides centralized <br />telephone operation and public information services. The <br />classification may also be assigned routine clerical tasks which do <br />not interrupt telephone and reception duties. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, <br />the following: <br />Answer incoming telephone lines, evaluate the nature of the call <br />and direct the call to the appropriate office or person. <br />Maintain current listing of office and individual phone extensions; <br />as necessary, provide alternate or message extension numbers; may <br />take messages. <br />Respond to routine inquiries regarding location and/or hours of <br />City office operation, City activities, City organization, and <br />names of City officials and management personnel; may maintain <br />community directories to provide general information assistance. <br />Maintain file on current City job openings for public information; <br />distribute job applications and flyers; distribute and assist in <br />the proper completion of interest cards for future job openings; <br />perform other routine clerical duties in support of Personnel <br />Department programs. <br />Maintain schedule for conference room and council chamber; arrange <br />for setup with various departments. <br />Package and schedule for pickup Federal Express and United Parcel <br />Service (UPS) mail; review monthly UPS billing for accuracy, notify <br />UPS of inaccurate billing and arrange for payment. <br />Order and distribute telephone directories to City offices. <br />May perform a variety of routine clerical tasks such as coding, <br />sorting, collating, or stamping documents, cards, or other <br />materials; stuff and/or address envelopes; prepare and/or process <br />standard forms according to established procedures. <br />Train relief operators. <br />Perform related duties as assigned. <br />
