FIRE MARSHAL <br />DEFINITION <br />Performs administrative and managerial functions for a major <br />division of the Fire Department; and provides highly <br />responsible and technical staff assistance as a member of the <br />fire management team. <br />This position has overall responsibility for fire prevention, <br />fire investigation, hazardous materials and public education <br />programs. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Receives general direction from the Fire Chief. <br />Exercises direct supervision over the Fire Prevention / Fire <br />Safety staff. <br />Exercises indirect supervision over fire suppression <br />personnel in those areas of fire prevention, fire <br />investigation, hazardous material enforcement, and public <br />education. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not <br />limited to, the following: <br />Develops goals and objectives, policies and procedures for <br />division personnel. <br />Selects, supervises and evaluates staff and provides for <br />their training and development. <br />Directs all assigned inspection activities for compliance <br />with all federal, state and local codes. <br />Initiates reports for the Fire Chief, City Manager, Council, <br />Commissions and / or other organizations. <br />Oversees, coordinates and directs public information and <br />education programs within the community and in public and <br />private schools. <br />Provides highly responsible and technical staff assistance. <br />Prepares and maintains written records, studies memos, <br />citations and reports relating to fire prevention inspection, <br />investigation and plan reviews. <br />
