CITY OF COLTON <br />OFFICE SUPPORT FLOATER I / II <br />DEFINITION: <br />DRAM' <br />Under the supervision of higher level supervisory personnel, performs a wide variety of typing <br />and general clerical work of a routine nature subject to short term and long term assignments <br />within any department in the City. Provides office support to an assigned City department or <br />program management relieving them of a variety of administrative details; filling vacancies due <br />to leave of absence or separation or providing office assistance work on special assignment. <br />Provides information regarding City, department or program activities, policies and procedures; <br />performs other duties as required. Provide back-up support to the City Clerk Passport and <br />Scanning programs. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Office Support Floater I is the entry level class within the Office Support Floater series and <br />is expected to learn to perform assigned duties and responsibilities. Incumbents within this <br />classification initially perform routine and less complex duties and responsibilities, however, <br />steadily receive more complex duties as experience is gained. Incumbents in this class normally <br />work under close and continuous supervision performing repetitive or closely related duties <br />according to established procedures. This classification is distinguished form the Office Support <br />Floater II in that an incumbent is expected to perform assigned duties under direct supervision, <br />as they learn their positions and the needs of the City. In that this is a learning classification, <br />typically incumbents can generally expect to progress to the higher level class of Office Support <br />Floater II after gaining one year of experience. <br />The Office Support Floater II is a journey level class responsible for performing a full range of <br />general clerical duties. Incumbents within this classification are expected to demonstrate a full <br />understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned <br />duties. Employees in this class may often have contact with the public, answering a variety of <br />procedural questions and providing information. This classification is distinguished from the <br />classification of Office Support Floater I in that incumbents are expected to perform assigned <br />duties in any department of the City on a short term or long term basis with minimal supervision <br />and at an independent level. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following) <br />• Types a variety of documents in draft and final form, such as correspondence, standard <br />forms, charts, and reports using office computer or other office equipment. <br />• Proofreads materials for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format. <br />• Receives the public and answers calls; determines how incoming calls should be routed; <br />directs people to appropriate offices. <br />• Explains routine procedures, processes and department activities to the public and staff from <br />other departments. <br />
