R-99-02 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON ACCEPTING A <br />CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY AFTER-SCHOOL HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE GRANT <br />TO THE COLTON PUBLIC LIBRARY AND AMENDING THE ADOPTED BUDGET FOR A <br />TOTAL FY 2002/03 APPROPRIATION OF $90,000 <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton is dedicated to building a more <br />literate community; and <br />WHEREAS, the California State Library has awarded the Colton Public Library <br />$90,000 for computer equipment, staff and materials; and <br />WHEREAS, a need exists to improve the literacy and test scores of school-age <br />children, specifically those who come from homes where English is not the first language; and <br />WHEREAS, the Colton Public Library was one of the first public libraries in the county <br />to recognize the need to offer public access to computers and the Internet; involving both <br />children and parents in organized computer training; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF COLTON ACCEPT A <br />CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY AFTERSCHOOL, HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE GRANT TO <br />THE COLTON PUBLIC LIBRARY IN THE AMOUNT OF $90,000, AMENDING THE <br />ADOPTED BUDGET FOR A TOTAL FY 2002/03 APPROPRIATION OF $90,000, AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />LIBRARY GRANT REVENUE —"HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE GRANT" $90,000 <br />LIBRARY GRANT EXPENDITURES - <br />SALARIES PART TIME $ 24,000 <br />OFFICE SUPPLIES —POSTAGE $ 500 <br />OPERATING SUPPLIES $14,500 <br />PROFESSIONAL SERVICES $1,000 <br />MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT $50,000 <br />PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS 20' DAY OF AUGUST 2002. <br />ATTEST: <br />Qi3-tr��-tv <br />CAROLINA P.
