MAINTENANCE WORKER I/II CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />As assigned to the Public Works Department <br />• Trims, prunes, weeds, mows, irrigates and edges City parks and various other right of way <br />areas that need general landscaping; plant and/or transplant flowers, bulbs, shrubs, trees and <br />other plant life. <br />• Assists tree trimming crews in trimming and pruning of trees; removes trees and shrubs <br />utilizing appropriate tools and equipment; cleans and maintains work areas; picks up tree <br />branches and bushes from work areas and transfers to appropriate refuse areas. <br />• Assists asphalt crew with street repairs which may include performing semi -skilled duties <br />relative to skin patching, crack sealing, reconstruction's, overlays and utility cuts. <br />• Performs a variety of semi -skilled duties with a concrete crew; assists in the pouring, setting, <br />forming and finishing of concrete for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, sewer manholes, <br />catch basins, and other improvements. <br />• Assists the paint crew and/or sign fabrication crew; paint and stencil of streets, curbs and <br />parking lots; operates paint strippers and spray guns; mixes and prepares paints; paints City <br />buildings and facilities; assists with installing, repairing and maintaining traffic and street <br />signs as necessary <br />• Performs general maintenance on some aspects of an irrigation system; replaces sprinkler <br />heads on a routine basis or as necessary. <br />• Performs a variety of semi -skilled and limited skilled manual work in assisting in carpentry, <br />construction, maintenance and repair of City buildings and facilities. <br />• Performs routine general maintenance of City buildings and facilities; cleans restrooms, <br />sweeps and mops floors; arranges rooms for meetings and other special events; replaces light <br />bulbs, performs limited plumbing duties; and makes other basic repairs as necessary. <br />As assigned to the Cemetery <br />• Prepares and completes interments and disinterments. <br />• Trims, prunes, weeds, mows, irrigates and edges Cemetery, right-of-way areas, and <br />undeveloped property that need general landscaping; plants and/or transplants flowers, bulbs, <br />shrubs, trees and other plant life. <br />• Operates and maintains a variety of equipment for gravesite preparation such as a backhoe, <br />small tractor, lawn mowers, shoring equipment, earth tamping devices, and coffin/vault <br />lowering devices. <br />• Marks gravesites and locates plots on Cemetery maps. <br />• Opens and closes grounds and facilities every day of the year; directs visitors to specific areas <br />of the cemetery; provides other public assistance as requested. <br />• Performs skilled manual labor to assist in minor maintenance and repair of the Cemetery <br />Office and facilities. <br />• Operates computer for the purposes of maintaining vendor, mortuary and related agency lists, <br />searches for information on plots and decedents. <br />• Assists in the maintenance of files and records relative to cemetery operations. <br />As assigned to the Utility Department <br />
