MAINTENANCE WORKER UII CITY OF COLTON <br />a Page 4 of 4 <br />qualifications is to possess the equivalent of two years of experience performing duties <br />directly applicable to assigned area of responsibility and a high school diploma. <br />Maintenance Worker I <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and <br />abilities necessary for a Maintenance Worker I. A typical way of obtaining the required <br />qualifications is to possess the equivalent of one year of experience performing duties <br />directly applicable to assigned area of responsibility and a high school diploma. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid, class C California driver's license. <br />Possession of a class B California driver's license is desirable for some positions. <br />Possession of a Grade I Water Distribution Operator's license issued by the American <br />Water Works Association is desirable for some positions. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />Street, parks, irrigation and other public works construction and maintenance equipment. <br />The operation, care, and preventive maintenance techniques for light duty trucks and <br />equipment, and assigned power tools. <br />Methods, materials, tools and equipment relative to assigned area of responsibility <br />including tree trimming, street, curb, gutter, sidewalk, painting, sign fabrication, <br />irrigation system and water meter and main equipment and tools. <br />Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. <br />General landscaping. <br />Materials, tools and techniques used in the installation and maintenance of pipes, meters, <br />mains, gates and related equipment. <br />Practices, methods, and materials used in general construction, grounds maintenance, and <br />general maintenance work. <br />Ability to: <br />Operate a variety of maintenance equipment necessary for assigned area of responsibility. <br />Perform semi -skilled construction and maintenance tasks. <br />Learn to read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications, and technical <br />manuals. <br />Perform labor intensive manual tasks for extended periods of time. <br />Keep accurate records. <br />Understand and follow oral and written instructions. <br />Communicate clearly and concisely. <br />Establish effective working relationships with those contacted at work. <br />Respond to issues and concerns from the community. <br />Skill to: <br />Operate a variety of maintenance equipment on City streets or other City property. <br />Operate an office computer for reporting or retrieving information. <br />
