FOR SOLID <br />WASTE SERVICES. <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action: <br /> <br />No recommended action. Receive Proposals from CR&R requesting an extension to the existing <br />Franchise Agreement from June 30, 2026, to one of three presented Options; Option 1 - five year <br />extension, Option 2 - five years plus option to extend five additional years or Option 3 - ten year <br />extension. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The City’s Solid Waste, Recyclables and Or ganic/Green Waste is currently collected and <br />processed by CR&R Inc. under the existing Franchise Agreement which originated on or about <br />May 16, 1996 with Taormina Industries. On or about February 16, 1997 Taormina Industries was <br />approved as a wholly owned subsidiary of Republic Services. <br /> <br />On or before March 7 2017, the Franchise Agreement was assigned to CR&R Inc. <br /> <br />ISSUES/ANALYSIS <br /> <br />During the City Council meeting of August 15, 2023, CR&R Inc. made a presentation with three <br />options for Contract enhancements in exchange for an extension to the existing Franchise <br />Agreement, which expires June 30, 2026. <br /> <br />1 <br />Packet Pg. 7
