CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For City Council Meeting of February 20, 2001
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL
APPROVAL: HENRY T. GARCIA, CITY MANAGER
FROM: THOMAS K. CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTOR--Vce_—
SUBJECT: COLTON PUBLIC UTILITIES LOGO
DATE: FEBRUARY 6, 2001
BACKGROUND
Recently, the City of Colton began the process of creating a new identity for itself, building upon
several core values. These core values include: (1) financial strength; (2) focus on customer
service; (3) cost effective and efficient operations; (4) organizational environment of trust and
innovation; (5) promotion of "Team Colton"; and (6) provision of a safe and livable City of Colton.
In keeping with these values and in response to the changes taking place within the industry, the
Utilities Department believes that marketing our product, on behalf of the City of Colton, is
essential to survival in today's competitive market. One important way to be a positive arm of the
City is to establish a strong presence and partnership with the community. The creation of an
easily identifiable symbol that speaks of the quality of our product, our responsiveness and
reliability, equitable rate, and the commitment we have to our community is the first step to
establishing that presence.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
The attached Colton Public Utilities logo and tag line is offered for your review and approval. The
logo design would be placed on our stationery and business cards, utility billing envelopes, and
utility department vehicles. Also attached is a chronology of the City's logo. The current City logo,
which identifies the City with one of the last remaining Carnegie libraries, does not address the
services we provide nor the loyalty we wish to build with our customers. We strongly feel that the
combination of the logo and the tag line fits the image and intent we want to portray to our
customers, and also applies the core values and principles of the City in a positive manner.
ALTERNATIVES
Use the current City of Colton logo.
M
Page 1 of 2 (w/attachments)
)
aa
Item #9
