This obsolescence is the cause of slow <br />response times, and the situation will not be improved but magnified by the upgrade to Questys 2002. <br />Based on these observations we recommend the following: <br />1 Replace the existing Pentium 2 application server with a new Pentium 3 or Pentium 4 server (one or <br />two Intel processors, CPU speed on 1GHz or more, 515 MB or 1 GB of memory, 100 Mbs NIC and <br />RAID 5 with a minimum of five 18 GB or 36 GB drives). A sample specification will be faxed to <br />you by Valerie. <br />2 Install Windows 2000 Server and MS SQL Server on item 1. <br />3 Replace Pentium 2 -based workstations (one in Clerk's office, two in Electrical Department) with <br />Pentium 4 units (1.8 GHz, 256 MB or 512 MB RAM, 20 GB hard disk, high resolution video <br />controller, 100MBs NIC, Windows 2000/XP) <br />4 Increase memory in remaining scanning workstation units to a minimum of 256 MB and install <br />Windows 2000/XP operating system. <br />5 Replace Fujitsu 3096EX scanner at City Clerk's office with a Fujitsu M4097D scanner. <br />6 Replace existing TenX optical drive with Hewlett-Packard SureStore 9100mx unit. <br />7 Purchase optical disk manager software for item 6. <br />The cost estimate for the system upgrade is presented in table 1. The estimate presumes that all <br />hardware and third -party software will be purchased by the City and integrated/installed by DMC.
