CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF JANUARY 17, 2006 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., PW DIRECTOR/CITY ENGINEER <br />SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION REQUEST TO AWARD THE <br />CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF <br />MASONRY WALL FOR THE IMPOUND YARD TO CME <br />BUILDERS IN THE AMOUNT OF $52,180.48. <br />DATE: JANUARY 9, 2006 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On November 1, 2005, the City Council approved to construct the Police Tow Yard on City <br />owned lot located on Fogg Street, south of "M" Street. This project will allow the Police <br />Department to recover costs associated with towed and stored vehicles which were <br />impounded. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The Impound Yard Construction Project will be completed in two phases. Phase I includes: <br />design of the administrative building, property cleanup, grading, construction of a masonary <br />wall and installation of fencing and some asphalt work. Phase I of this project has begun and <br />the City has retained the services of Fraco Enterprises to prepare the grading plans for the <br />project; the grading correspondent to the project has been completed. The second phase <br />includes the following: completion of fencing, paving, landscaping and installation of a <br />temporary administration building. <br />In compliance with Section 3.08.100 (c) of the city's purchasing ordinance staff solicited <br />proposals from three companies. Of the three companies notified two responses were <br />received with the following cost proposals: <br />1. CME Builders in the amount of $52,180.48 <br />2. Kretschmar & Smith, Inc in the amount of $54,000.00 <br />3. Fischer Construction, in compliance with Section 3.08.100 (c) of the city's <br />purchasing ordinance, no response. <br />7/10/03 City Clerk's Office Cb <br />
