ITEM #9 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 18, 2006 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., PW DIRECTOR/CITY ENGINEER <br />SUBJECT: APPROVE CHANGE ORDER FOR THE CITY HALL REMODEL <br />PHASE II PROJECT TO INLAND EMPIRE CONSTRUCfTON, <br />INC., IN THE AMOUNT OF $ 1,585. <br />DATE: March 27, 2006 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On August 24, 2005, a contract was entered into by the City of Colton and Inland Empire <br />Inc. for the City Hall Remodel Phase II Project. This agreement was awarded in the amount <br />of $24,113. The scope of work is inclusive of the following: construction of the wall frames <br />and T -bar ceiling in the City Hall Police Department. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />As part of the City Hall Phase II Remodeling Project, the old Chamber of Commerce <br />Building was annexed into the City Hall building to serve as a mini -gymnasium for Police <br />Department personnel. Three unforeseen changes resulted in a change order to the original <br />contract totaling $1,585.00. <br />At the time when the scope of work was delineated for the contractor all the walls were <br />specified to use only twenty (20) gauge metal studs as replacements to wood studs that were <br />called for in the plans and specifications. It was later decided the use of sixteen (16) gauge <br />metal studs would be more practical to carry the required structural load; the cost of this <br />change order is $960.00. Costs totaling $325.00 resulted from work done on the south wall <br />near the south door exit. The third change to the original scope totaled $300.00 and resulted <br />from the required trimming needed to reinstall light fixtures after the installation of the new <br />T -grid ceiling.
