ITEM #9 CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 18, 2006 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., PW DIRECTOR/CITY ENGINEER SUBJECT: APPROVE CHANGE ORDER FOR THE CITY HALL REMODEL PHASE II PROJECT TO INLAND EMPIRE CONSTRUCfTON, INC., IN THE AMOUNT OF $ 1,585. DATE: March 27, 2006 BACKGROUND: On August 24, 2005, a contract was entered into by the City of Colton and Inland Empire Inc. for the City Hall Remodel Phase II Project. This agreement was awarded in the amount of $24,113. The scope of work is inclusive of the following: construction of the wall frames and T -bar ceiling in the City Hall Police Department. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: As part of the City Hall Phase II Remodeling Project, the old Chamber of Commerce Building was annexed into the City Hall building to serve as a mini -gymnasium for Police Department personnel. Three unforeseen changes resulted in a change order to the original contract totaling $1,585.00. At the time when the scope of work was delineated for the contractor all the walls were specified to use only twenty (20) gauge metal studs as replacements to wood studs that were called for in the plans and specifications. It was later decided the use of sixteen (16) gauge metal studs would be more practical to carry the required structural load; the cost of this change order is $960.00. Costs totaling $325.00 resulted from work done on the south wall near the south door exit. The third change to the original scope totaled $300.00 and resulted from the required trimming needed to reinstall light fixtures after the installation of the new T -grid ceiling. The change orders required to complete the installation of the wall framing and T -bar ceiling at the City Hall Phase II Project is $ 1,585.00.
