SOUTH COLTON MURAL DESCRIPTION

The motivation behind The South Colton Mural is to encourage and establish
community involvement while honoring legacy business from the community.
This mural will help to establish an inventory of historical brands and logos which
have been significant (but not yet designated) in our city. The South Colton Mural
will also help to deter graffiti in the area while beautifying the parkways. This
concept has been proven to work in cities like San Diego, Riverside, Los Angeles,
Pomona and Long Beach.
The South Colton Mural will honor the following:

The Colton High School logo which has been the only High School in
Colton’s long history and has appeared throughout the City of Colton for
decades
Four (4) Palm Trees which are planted at Colton’s “Unity Fountain” and
have been standing for 50 + years
Railroad Tracks that pay tribute to the city’s long “Train Town USA” theme
Boxing Gloves to acknowledge the history of Colton’s past Council Men and
Mayors starting and participating in boxing events within the city.
“El Patio” tribute is to identify the social environment that the community
created to combat the systemic racism that prohibited them from
socializing north of the railroad tracks.
Veterans Park Eagle acknowledges The South Colton Corridors only park
that has been home to several little league teams and a meeting place for
community members.
Casa Valdez logo will identify the cities first and only Black Seminole owned
business and the funding source for the South Colton Mural.
2.a
Packet Pg. 21 Attachment: Attachment 1_SOUTH COLTON MURAL Description English-Spanish (4632 : Sign Review - Mural at 165 East "O" Street)
