ITEM #21
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF JULY 18,2006
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E.; P.W. DIRECTOR / CITY ENGINEER
SUBJECT: APPROVE AMENDMENT OF AGREEMENT FOR ENGINEERING AND
SURVEYING SERVICES TO GK AND ASSOCIATES, IN THE
AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $198,750.00.
DATE:
BACKGROUND:
JULY 10, 2006
The Engineering Division entered into an agreement with GK and Associates in fiscal year
2005/2006 in the amount of $126,200. Engineering Services were provided through this
agreement, which aided staff in completing the design for the following projects: Slurry Seal Phase
IV, Slurry Seal Project Phase V, Citywide Slurry Seal and CDBG Cooley Modular Projects. In
addition, GK and Associates also provided the Engineering Division with services comparable to a
Public Works Inspector during the interim period in which this position was being permanently filled.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
During fiscal year 2006/2007 the Engineering Division will oversee moving various design projects
into construction, which includes: CDBG 2005/2006 and CDBG 2006/2007 Projects, Traffic
Signalizations at La Cadena/Rancho and Agua Mansa/Rancho, Elizabeth Davis Park
Improvements, Carreon Street Closure Phase I and 11, Prado Park, Safe Routes to School,
Improvements to Dr. Paul J. Rogers Elementary and 8 th Street from Citrus to Johnston. These
projects are ongoing collaboratively with construction projects and projects staff is working to move
out of the environmental phase and into design. To aggressively move forward with the design
projects mentioned above, without affecting the progress of either construction or environmental
projects, staff suggests amending the existing GK and Associates Agreement. The proposed
amendment would extend the term of the agreement through fiscal year 2006/2007; the extension
of this agreement will not exceed $198,750.00.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The agreement will reduce the following project's available balances accordingly:
Project Account No.
2005/2006 CDBG Improvements
8th Street from Citrus to Johnston
Carreon Street Closure Phase I
Carreon Street Closure Phase 11
CDBG Project 104-31105-2765
CDBG Project 104-31305-2767
7/10/03 City Clerk's Office Cb
$30,000
450-0616-6970-3890
$15,000
450-0604-6970-3890
$15,000
248-0543-6955-3890
$15,000
248-0544-6955-3890
$5,000
215-0601-6920-3890
$3,000
215-0602-6920-3890
