CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF July 18. 2006 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members FROM: Bill Smith, Community Services Director ITEM #27 SUBJECT: Adoption of Childcare Latchkey Contract with the State Department of Education for Fiscal Year 2006-07 and Authorization for City Manager to Sign Contract Documents DATE: June 29, 2006 CAUKUKUUNU: The City Council has approved the Community Services Department to enter into agreements with the State Department of Education to provide latchkey childcare services to the community. This contract is ongoing, but has to be renewed each fiscal year. Historically the City Manager has been the designated authority to sign all state contracts. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: For fiscal year 2006-07, the Extended Day Care Latchkey Grant will make services available for approximately 200 school-age children from low-income families. The state requires a designated authority to sign on behalf of the City for all childcare contracts. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The grant amount for fiscal year 2005-06 was $452,539. The grant for fiscal year 2006-07 is likewise $452,539. The funds will be placed into revenue account number 206-5768, and the expenditure accounts will be handled under ledger number 206-7200-7202. These amounts have been budgeted -for in fiscal year 2006-07, and there is no general fund impact. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None CONFLICT OF INTEREST: None RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council approve a Resolution adopting the Childcare Latchkey Contract CLTK-6073 with the State Department of Education. Staff also recommends that City Council authorize the City Manager to sign all contract documents necessary to effectuate this agreement.
