CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF July 18,2006 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: Tom Hendrix, Fire Chief <br />I III d =1 �� UR <br />SUBJECT: Approve Request for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee <br />Appointment to the Positions of Fire Captain and Fire Engineer <br />DATE: July 10, 2006 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The existing Fire Captain and Fire Engineer eligibility lists have expired and the Fire <br />Department is requesting approval to establish a new list for each position. The salary range for <br />Fire Captain is $5,993 - $7286 and the salary range for Fire Engineer is $5,018 - $6,098. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The Fire Department currently has one vacant Fire Captain position and the testing process to <br />fill this vacancy may result in a vacant Fire Engineer position; therefore, recruitment for <br />Engineer is also requested. <br />Recruitment for said positions will be conducted and eligibility lists established upon Council <br />approval. The candidate(s) chosen will meet the education and experience requirements as <br />specified in the job descriptions. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Funds for the position(s) have been budgeted in the 2006-07 Fiscal Year from Account <br />Number 100-6090-6091-1010 (Salaries) and 100-6090-6091-1100 (Salary Related Benefits). <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST <br />None. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve the request for recruitment and ratification of <br />employee appointment to the full-time position of Fire Captain and, if necessary, Fire Engineer. <br />REVIEW TEAM ONLY <br />City Attorney: Nydt� ICE, <br />City Manager: ?Ck_�St' -I <br />Finance Director: D - N -A "ks I L�E <br />Human Resource Director: (__* <br />
