CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 3, 2006 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CIN COUNCIL <br />FROM: DILU DE ALWIS, FINANCE DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR APPROVAL FOR THE RECRUITMENT AND <br />RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENT TO CUSTOMER <br />SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE I POSITIONS IN THE CUSTOMER <br />SERVICE DIVISION OF THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: <br />ITEM <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Customer Service Division of the Finance Department is comprised of a staff of 10 <br />employees: Customer Service Manager (1), Sr. Customer Service Representative (1), Customer <br />Service Representative II (5) and Customer Service Representative 1 (3). The current monthly <br />pay rate for a Customer Service Representative I is $2,373 - $2,885 <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />A vacancy exists in the Customer Service Division of the Finance Department for a Customer <br />Service Representative I and an additional vacancy in the near future due to a potential retirement <br />of a Customer Service Representative 11. The filling of these positions are critical to maintain an <br />acceptable level of service for our utility customers without which they would experience long hold <br />times as well as long lines at the front counters. Staff is also recommending Council authorization <br />to post this recruitment whenever there is a vacancy during the current fiscal year due to the turn- <br />over of personnel in this division. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The funds are approved in the Customer Service Division's salary account number 100-6040- <br />6042-1010 and benefits in account 100-6040-6042-1100. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST — Gift Disclosure Requirements <br />None <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve the request for establishing a new list for the <br />position of Customer Service Representative I in the Customer Service Division of the Finance <br />Department and authorize staff to recruit and ratify employee appointment to the said position, as <br />needed during the current fiscal year. <br />REVIEW TEAM ONLY <br />City Attorney: : a Finance Director: <br />City Manager: :' Human Resources Dira6tor: <br />
