ITEM #17 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />U"D r T11U r'TTV f'" XTf''TT 1%417V TTVP !11P V(IVFMR1W1? 11 Inns <br />1' Vl\ 111E till 1 <iV V1 vii/ a• ilii+ v vi i .v • iii•+s�s���+� <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., PW DIRECTOR/CITY ENGINEER <br />SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION AGREEMENT FOR <br />THE MALIBU COURT STORM DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT <br />PROJECT TO KEN THOMPSON INC, IN THE AMOUNT OF <br />$99,989. <br />DATE: NOVEMBER 15, 2006 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On August 15, 2006, Council action approved amending the fiscal year 2006/2007 Capital <br />Improvement Program (CIP) budget to include the Malibu Court Storm Drainage Project. <br />Council action on August 15, 2006 also authorized staff to solicit bids for this project. The <br />scope of work correspondent to the Project will resolve the prevalent flooding experienced <br />along Malibu Court. To address the above mentioned concern along Malibu Court, a 42" <br />diameter reinforced concrete pipe will be installed to drain water from an existing catch <br />basin at the west end of Malibu Court to an existing catch basin along Reche Canyon <br />Road. Bids for the Project were received on October 10, 2006, however all bids received <br />were above the funding allocated to the Project. Council action on October 17, 2006 <br />directed staff to redesign and re -solicit bids for this Project. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />As directed by Council staff redesigned the Project specifications and requested informal <br />bids from five contractors. The following bids were received from the five contractors: <br />1) Ken Thompson, Inc. $99,989.00. <br />2) Savala Construction Company $110,340.00. <br />3) Harris Construction No Response. <br />4) Gwinn Construction No Response. <br />5) Vasily Construction No Response. <br />The redesigned project requires the City provide the general contractor with the 42" <br />reinforced concrete pipe, which has already been ordered. In accordance with the bidding <br />and purchasing requirements set forth by the City's purchasing ordinance 0-12-03 Section <br />3.08.050 and 3.08.100, staff requests the award of the Malibu Court Storm Drainage <br />Project be awarded to the lowest responsive bidder Ken Thompson, Inc., in the amount of <br />$99,989. <br />
