CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF February 6, 2007
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: Anthony Arroyo, Human Resources Director
SUBJECT: Request for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee Appointment to the
Full -Time Position of Executive Assistant in the Human Resources
Department
DATE:
January 25, 2007
BACKGROUND: During the FY 01-02 the position of Executive Assistant was approved for the
Human Resources Department. In August of 2005 the Executive Assistant for the department
retired and the position was downgraded to Senior Office Specialist given the availability of the
former incumbent and the immediate assistance the department needed due to the retirement of
the Executive Assistant. The recent separation of the incumbent filling the position allows the
department to reevaluate the needs of the department.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The position requires a high level of professionalism, the ability to
handle confidential information, excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to
work well with all levels of management and staff and to provide the best customer service. As a
result, the department requires executive -level administrative support for the Human Resources
Director and the department.
The salary range for Executive Assistant is $3,784-$4,600 per month. Recruitment for said
position will be conducted and an eligibility list established. The candidate selected will meet the
education and experience requirements of the job.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Re-establishing the position of Executive Assistant will result in an
increase $2,772 for salary and benefits for the balance of the fiscal year. This action does not
require a budget adjustment due to current salary savings in the department's budget as a result
of the vacancy of the Senior Office Specialist position.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST — None.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council approve the request for recruitment
and ratification of employee appointment to the full-time position of Executive Assistant in the
Human Resources Department.
Prepared by: Blanca Arambula-Moreno, Human Resources Analyst
ITEM #7
REVIEW TEAM ONLY
City Attorney: — A
Finance Director:
City Manager:
OTHER:
7/10/03 City Clerk's Office Cb
