ITEM #14 CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF MARCH 20, 2007 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM: AMER JAHKER, P.E., P.W. DIRECTOR / CITY ENGINEER SUBJECT: ADOPT RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION #2119 TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL THROUGH STREETS AND STOP INTERSECTIONS ALONG OLIVE STREET FOR EASTBOUND TRAFFIC APPROACHING BOARDWELL AVENUE AND BOARDWELL AVENUE FOR SOUTHBOUND AND NORTHBOUND TRAFFIC APPROACHING OLIVE STREET. DATE: MARCH 12, 2007 BACKGROUND: The State of California Vehicle Code allows the installation of traffic control devices, if adopted by a City ordinance or a resolution. Section 21 of City of Colton Resolution # 2119 lists through streets and stop intersections within the City of Colton. ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: The intersection of Olive Street and Boardwell Avenue was reviewed by the City of Colton Traffic Safety Committee on January 10, 2007. Due to the limited visibility on the northwest corner of the Olive Street and Boardwell Avenue intersection a warrant analysis was performed for the intersection. The intersection met the warrant standards and it was concluded that the restricted view indicates a need for a traffic control device by means of a STOP sign. Staff recommends approval of the installation of the traffic control devices on Olive Street for eastbound traffic approaching Boardwell Avenue and on Boardwell Avenue for northbound and southbound traffic approaching Olive Street. FINANCIAL IMPACT: This action will require the installation of two stop signs and the two advance warning signs. The material cost for those installations will cost approximately $1,500.00. The funds for the recommended signage are available in the Street Division Supplies Account Number 100-6150- 6160-2301.
