ITEM #2 CITY OF COLTON For the City Council Meeting of April 3, 2007 TO: Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers FROM: Candace E. Cassel, Economic Development Director SUBJECT: Announcement and Ratification of New Member to Sign Guidelines Review Committee DATE: March 14, 2007 BACKGROUND On August 22, 2006, the City Council and Planning Commission held a joint workshop to discuss the City's Sign Ordinance. Both bodies approved the configuration of a nine (9) member Committee that will be charged with reviewing the key issues identified in the workshop and designated their respective representatives. Staff was directed to identify the balance of the committee members, drawing from members of the Economic Development Strategic Planning Advisory Committee (EDSPAC). The following members represented the make-up of the Sign Guidelines Review Committee and were approved by the City Council on September 5, 2006: Councilmembers (3) : Deirdre Bennett, Richard Delarosa and Isaac Suchil Planning Commissioners (3): Tony Vilches, Jose Perez, III and Tom Archulteta Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. Eufemia Reyes EDSPAC Members (2): Larry Lord and Dan Melzer Sign Company Representative (Adjunct): George Saelzler DISCUSSION In December, 2006, two committee members from the City Council replaced vacancies on the Committee by past Mayor Deirdre and Richard DeLarosa; these were Susan Oliva and David J. Toro. A committee member vacancy was created by the retirement of Tony Vilches from the Planning Commission and at its regular meeting on March 13, 2007, the Planning Commission nominated Gilbert Arrieta as his replacement. When the City Council ratifies this member from the Planning Commission, the committee for the remaining meetings will be: Councilmembers (3): Isaac Suchil, Susan Oliva and David J. Toro Planning Commissioners (3): Jose Perez, 111, Tom Archuleta and Gilbert Arrieta Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.
