ITEM #8 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />1 -UK WUNUL Mtt I INU OF August !. zuui <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br />FROM: Bill Smith — Community Services Director <br />SUBJECT: Request Approval for Part-time Salary Increase for Recreation <br />Specialist, Lifeguard & Pool Manager Classifications in the <br />Community Services Department <br />DATE: July 30, 2007 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Community Services Department employs part-time Recreation Specialists, <br />Lifeguards and Pool Managers. These positions are essential in the planning and <br />implementation of recreation programs and events. The Recreation Specialist position <br />has not had a salary increase since July 2005 and the Lifeguard and Pool Manager <br />positions have not had a salary increase since July 2003. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />These part-time positions play an integral role in the Community Services Department. <br />These individuals are instrumental in assisting with program support, facility supervision, <br />and customer service. The current salary range for Recreation Specialist is $9.92 to <br />$10.93 per hour, for Lifeguard is $7.81 to $8.61, and for Pool Manager is $11.55 to $12.74 <br />per hour. Based on a survey of surrounding cities for comparable positions, the data <br />suggests that a salary increase is warranted. Due to the responsibilities of this position, it <br />is important to ensure that the pay range for this position is competitive to prohibit <br />excessive turn -over and assure program stability. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The financial impact of this increase has been included in department budget projections <br />for the coming fiscal year 2007-08. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST: <br />
