ITEM #18
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 21, 2007
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., P.W. DIRECTOR / CITY ENGINEER
SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE THE AWARD OF A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT
FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF DAMAGED TRAFFIC SIGNAL
LOOP DETECTORS ON VARIOUS LOCATIONS TO LOOP
MASTERS, INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF $26,775
DATE: AUGUST 13, 2007
BACKGROUND:
In a city wide traffic study and inventory assessment conducted by staff, a total of one hundred nineteen
(119) traffic signal loop detectors were reported damaged. Traffic signal loop detectors are used at
intersections to detect passing vehicles and adjust traffic signal lights to increase traffic flow and aid in
traffic safety. In order to increase traffic flow and safety, the replacement of damaged traffic signal loop
detectors is recommended. The project scope of work consists of removal of existing damaged traffic
signal loop detectors, installation of new traffic signal loop detectors, and filling in the street cut with
hot melt rubberized asphalt sealant. The damaged traffic signal loop detectors were identified by staff to
exist largely along the Washington Corridor at the following intersections:
Intersection
N/B
S/B
E/B
W/B
Washington
Cooley Dr./Barton
10
8
10
0
Washington
Mohave
0
6
2
0
Washington
Meadow
0
6
0
0
Washington
Bluff
3
0
0
4
Mt.
