ITEM #7
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 2, 2007
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BOB MILLER, CHIEF OF POLICE
SUBJECT: REQUEST APPROVAL FOR EMPLOYEE RECRUITMENT AND
RADIFICATION OF APPOINTMENT TO THE VACANT POSITION OF
CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER IN THE COMMUNITY RESPONSE
TEAM (CRT) DIVISION OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
DATE: SEPTEMBER 19, 2007
BACKGROUND:
The Police Department currently has four Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) positions. Recently,
one CEO elected to become a part-time dispatcher, vacating her Code Enforcement position. The
Police Department is requesting to recruit and appoint a Code Enforcement Officer. The current
salary range is $3853 to $4684.
DISCUSSION / ANALYSIS:
Colton residents, businesses, community leaders, and the Police Department are interested in
improving and maintaining the quality of life in our community. One tool the City uses to meet this
arduous task is Code Enforcement; however, it is essential for this unit to be fully staffed. The
Code Enforcement Officer position is responsible for investigating conditions within the city that
involve inadequately maintained properties, illegal street vendors, and other violations of Federal,
State and Municipal laws, codes, and regulations that cause unsafe or unsightly conditions.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funds for this position are budgeted for Fiscal Year 2007-2008 in account # 100-6070-6074-
1000/1100 (Salary and Benefits). No additional budget is required at this time.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST:
None
