ITEM #7 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 2, 2007 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: BOB MILLER, CHIEF OF POLICE <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST APPROVAL FOR EMPLOYEE RECRUITMENT AND <br />RADIFICATION OF APPOINTMENT TO THE VACANT POSITION OF <br />CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER IN THE COMMUNITY RESPONSE <br />TEAM (CRT) DIVISION OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: SEPTEMBER 19, 2007 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Police Department currently has four Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) positions. Recently, <br />one CEO elected to become a part-time dispatcher, vacating her Code Enforcement position. The <br />Police Department is requesting to recruit and appoint a Code Enforcement Officer. The current <br />salary range is $3853 to $4684. <br />DISCUSSION / ANALYSIS: <br />Colton residents, businesses, community leaders, and the Police Department are interested in <br />improving and maintaining the quality of life in our community. One tool the City uses to meet this <br />arduous task is Code Enforcement; however, it is essential for this unit to be fully staffed. The <br />Code Enforcement Officer position is responsible for investigating conditions within the city that <br />involve inadequately maintained properties, illegal street vendors, and other violations of Federal, <br />State and Municipal laws, codes, and regulations that cause unsafe or unsightly conditions. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Funds for this position are budgeted for Fiscal Year 2007-2008 in account # 100-6070-6074- <br />1000/1100 (Salary and Benefits).
