ITEM #6 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF November 20, 2007 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: BOB MILLER, CHIEF OF POLICE <br />SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE INTERNAL FILLING OF A VACANT SENIOR <br />POLICE SERVICES CLERK POSITION AND RECRUITMENT FOR <br />THE RESULTING VACATED POLICE SERVICES CLERK POSITION <br />DATE: November 7, 2007 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />During the fiscal 07-08 budget process, the Police Department was approved to add a Senior <br />Police Services Clerk position, while maintaining the previously allotted Clerk positions. The new <br />Senior Police Services Clerk position was filled by an in-house promotion leaving a Police <br />Services Clerk position vacant. The Department is seeking approval to begin recruitment for the <br />resulting vacated Police Services Clerk position. The current salary range for a Police Services <br />Clerk is $2,287 to $2,780 per month. <br />DISCUSSION / ANALYSIS: <br />Police Services Clerks are generally assigned to the Departments Records Division and each <br />perform clerical duties to include; front counter/telephone contact with citizens, report data entry, <br />filing, responding to requests from other agencies, supply maintenance, etc. The Department <br />was approved in August to begin recruitment for one Police Services Clerk due to a personnel <br />transfer. A personnel increase approval for the 07-08 budget has created a second vacancy. The <br />Department requests approval to merge this vacancy with the August 21, 2007 approval, and <br />increase the number to be hired to two. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />There will be no financial impact in the 2007/2008 fiscal year as adequate funding was approved. <br />The incumbents will be classified at a lower step; therefore no additional funds are needed. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST: <br />None <br />
