CITY OF COLTON ITEM #6 <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF DECEMBER 18, 2007 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: David R. Zamora, Community Development Director <br />SUBJECT: Request for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee Appointment to <br />the Full -Time Position of Planning/Building Technician in the <br />Community Development Department <br />DATE: December 5, 2007 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In anticipation of an employee's retirement in the Community Development Department, staff is <br />requesting to recruit for the Planning/Building Technician position. In response to the continued <br />demand for services, the technician position is greatly needed to receive, coordinate, and <br />distribute building plan checks, prepare materials for the Historic Preservation Commission, <br />coordinate record retention documents, and to provide public service assistance in a timelier <br />manner in addition to the other daily tasks the position is responsible for. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />Recruitment for said position will be conducted upon Council's approval. The candidate chosen <br />will meet the education and experience requirements as specified in the job description. The <br />incumbent Planning/Building Technician has plans to retire on or about March 2008. Recruitment <br />and filling of the position will take approximately two to three months. In order to continue to <br />provide service to the City and to make the transition seamless, it will be necessary to recruit for <br />the position immediately. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />The position is funded in the Planning Division's salary account number 100-6300-6301-1010 and <br />benefits in account number 100-6300-6301-1100. The salary range is from $3366 to $4091 a <br />month. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />Not applicable. <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST: <br />Not applicable. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff requests that the City Council approve the request for the recruitment and ratification of the <br />employee appointment to the full-time position of Planning/Building Technician. <br />REVIEW TEAM ONLY <br />City Attorney:.— AFinance Director: <br />City Manager: HR Director: Q .7iltfl <br />
