CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF February 5, 2008 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members FROM: Bill Smith, Community Services Director ITEM #11 SUBJECT: Consideration of Resolution to Accept Instructional Materials Grant from the State of California for the Childcare Division of the Community Services Department, and Amend Budget for Fiscal Year 2007-08 to Reflect Grant Acceptance DATE: January 16, 2008 BACKGROUND: The State of California, Department of Education has released funding to the City of Colton, Latchkey Childcare Program, in the amount of $2,411 for fiscal year 2007-08. The funds must be used for the benefit of children in the Latchkey Childcare Program to enhance program quality through the purchase of instructional materials. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: Funding from this Instructional Materials Grant will be used to refurbish and/or replace worn equipment, as well as purchase new learning materials. All equipment and materials purchased will be in compliance with State licensing standards. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no general fund impact from grant receipt. The funds should be placed into Childcare Fund revenue account 206-5889, and the appropriation for expenditure is Childcare Fund expenditure account 206-7200-7205-2311. Each account should be increased by the grant amount of $2,411. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None CONFLICT OF INTEREST: None RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council adopt a resolution, approving State of California, Instructional Materials Contract CIMS -7473 for the Childcare Division of the Community Services Department, and amending the Childcare Fund Budget for fiscal year 2007-08, to reflect grant acceptance.
