FRASER, DIRECTOR OF WATER & WASTEWATER OPERATIONS SUBJECT: APPROVE THE RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENT TO THE FULL-TIME POSITION OF WATER UTILITIES OPERATOR. DATE: JULY 28, 2008 BACKGROUND: In anticipation of a possible retirement, there is a need to establish an eligibility list for a vacancy of the full-time position of Water Utilities Operator to ensure reliable service continues to the community in a timely manner. The salary range for the Water Utilities Operator is $3,535 - $4,297 per month. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The Water Department may have one vacancy, which affects the number of employees available to serve the City's growing water needs. Due to the current depletion of staff, crews are being spread thin in order to respond to the on-going demand of necessary maintenance and repairs of our water system. In addition, due to the lack of manpower, capital improvement projects, i.e., main line replacement, are taking longer to complete, which is causing more inconvenience to the residents. Filling this vacancy will help the department meet its present and future obligations and goals. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There are budgeted funds in the current fiscal budget for this salary, which will be charged to Account Numbers 521-8100-8101-1010-0000-000 (Salaries) and 521-8100-8101-1100-0000-000 (Related Benefits) respectfully.
