ITEM #23 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 19, 2008 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />FROM: MARITZA TAPIA, INTERIM PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE SOLICITATION OF BIDS FOR THE AGUA MANSA <br />ROAD/RANCHO AVENUE TRAFFIC SIGNALIZATION PROJECT. <br />DATE: AUGUST 6, 2008 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Agua Mansa Road/Rancho Avenue Traffic Signalization Project is part of the Fiscal Year <br />2008/2009 CIP (Capital Improvement Program). The traffic signalization at this intersection <br />include installation of four (4) mast arm poles, five (5) Type A-1 poles (10 ft.), emergency vehicle <br />pre-emption and battery back-up system unit, striping, handicap ramps, three (3) pedestrian <br />crossings, and loop detection system. This improvement will provide traffic safety to the growing <br />number of motorists that use Agua Mansa Road and Rancho Avenue. It will also eliminate traffic <br />congestion at this intersection especially during A.M. and P.M. peak hour. Presently, Agua Mansa <br />Road and Rancho Avenue is a four (4) way STOP intersection. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />The Plans, Specifications and Construction Estimates for this project have been completed by KOA <br />Corporation. This project is now ready for construction. The Engineer's Estimate for the Project <br />is $270, 838.00. The Plans and Engineer's Estimate for this project are attached as Exhibit A and B <br />respectively. <br />During the bidding process every attempt will be made by the Public Works/Engineering staff to <br />ensure a wide range of potential bidders are reached. The City will advertise in local newspapers <br />and `plan houses' where contractors can view the Project's plans, specifications and documents; <br />these proceedings are compliant to the process identified by the City's purchasing ordinance 0-12- <br />03, Section 3.08.050 and 3.08.090. Staff requests authorization to solicit bids for the construction <br />phase of this project. <br />
