ITEM #15
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 7, 2009
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: MARITZA TAPIA, INTERIM PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
SUBJECT: ADOPT ATTACHED RESOLUTION, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO.
2119 TO INCLUDE NO PARKING ALONG THE NORTH SIDE OF
VALLEY BOULEVARD BETWEEN MT. VERNON AVENUE AND
SPERRY DRIVE.
DATE: MARCH 11, 2009
BACKGROUND:
The State of California Vehicle Code allows parking restrictions if adopted by a City ordinance or a
resolution. Section 23 of the City of Colton Resolution # 2119 lists areas within the City of Colton
with parking restrictions.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Trucks and cars parked along Valley Boulevard create a sight distance restriction for motorist
entering the roadway and are causing traffic congestion. The location was reviewed by the City of
Colton Traffic Safety Committee on February 11, 2009, and a recommendation was made to
install the traffic control devices. The attached resolution amends Resolution # 2119 to include a
parking prohibition along the north side of Valley Boulevard from Mt. Vernon Avenue to the Sperry
Drive. The parking restrictions will allow for a safer ingress into the roadway for motorists. Staff
recommends approval of `no parking' along the north side of Valley Boulevard from Mt. Vernon
Avenue to Sperry Drive to improve a traffic condition that currently exists.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
This action will require the installation of a no parking signs. The approximate material cost for
these installations is $1,000.00. Funds for these materials have been encumbered in the Streets
Division account: 100-6150-6160-2301.
Budget
Year -to -Date Open Encumbrances
Expenditures
Available Funds
$176,039.35
$123,730.15 $52,92.99
$16.21
7/10/03 City Clerk's Office Cb
