SHARF, AICP, INTERIM DEVEWPMENT SERVICES <br />DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: HOME GRANT FOR AFFORDABLE REPLACEMENT SENIOR <br />HOUSING <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />It is recommended that the City Council approve the City Manager to execute a letter of support <br />for the application to secure HOME Investment Partnership (HOME) funds from the County of <br />San Bernardino. <br />GOAL STATEMENT <br />The proposed action will support the City of Colton's goal of expanding opportunities for safe <br />affordable housing for the senior members of the community, as well as the goal of providing <br />replacement housing opportunities needed as a result of the demolition of Colton Palms for <br />construction defects. <br />BACKGROUND <br />As one of the consortium -member cities, the City of Colton is eligible to receive HOME <br />Investment Partnership (HOME) funds from the County of San Bernardino. The County issued <br />a request for proposals to profit and nonprofit organizations eligible to provide affordable <br />housing. In the interim, representatives from the Corporation for Better Housing (CBH) and <br />Lynx Realty and Management approached staff seeking information regarding opportunities for <br />constructing senior housing in Colton. Subsequent to the discussions, they contacted the County <br />of San Bernardino in pursuit of potential funding sources available for construction of the <br />replacement housing site located at the corner of Mt. Vernon and Colton Avenue. <br />The CBH is dedicated to providing low to moderate income seniors and families with safe, <br />quality affordable housing and coordinated access to enhanced social service programs. It is a <br />
