GOMEZ, CITY CLERK <br />SUBJECT: CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF A GENERAL MUNICIPAL <br />ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2010, AND <br />REQUESTING THE COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO TO RENDER <br />SPECIFIED SERVICES <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />It is recommended that the City Council approve attached resolution calling the election and <br />requesting that the County of San Bernardino render specified services. <br />GOAL STATEMENT <br />The proposed action will support the City's goal to facilitate fair and transparent municipal <br />elections. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Under applicable State law, the City of Colton must take steps to call for the election of certain <br />officers of the City and to order a General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, November <br />2, 2010, which will be consolidated with the Statewide General Election for the following: <br />1. Mayor, at large, for full term of four years; <br />2. District 1 Councilmember for full term of four years; <br />3. District 2 Councilmember for full term of four years; <br />4. District 4 Councilmember for full term of four years; <br />ISSUES/ANALYSIS <br />Terms of office for certain elected City officials are nearing conclusion; as such the election <br />must be called by the City. Any discussion regarding the placement of City ballot measures will <br />be discussed separately by the City Council at a future Council meeting. <br />
