DATE: <br />TO: <br />FROM: <br />PREPARED BY: <br />SUBJECT: <br />09 <br />ITEM NO. <br />STAFF REPORT <br />SEPTEMBER 7, 2010 > <br />HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUN L �( <br />ROD FOSTER, CITY MANAGER <br />MARITZA TAPIA, INTERIM PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTO <br />GRAND AVENUE CURB, GUTTER AND REHAB PROJEC <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />It is recommended that the City Council authorize execution of a contract between the City of <br />Colton and County of San Bernardino for street improvements along Grand Avenue and <br />Stevenson Street. <br />GOAL STATEMENT <br />The proposed action will support the City's goal to provide for improvements to our public <br />infrastructure. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City and San Bernardino County have a shared interest in areas not incorporated within our <br />City limits. One such area is located north of Valley Boulevard, south of Stevenson Street, east <br />of Cypress Avenue and west of Hermosa Avenue. San Bernardino County and the City have <br />identified a need to provide curb, gutter and street improvements to Grand Avenue (between <br />Stevenson and Cypress) and Stevenson Street(between Grand to Valley). <br />ISSUES/ANALYSIS <br />San Bernardino County staff has completed the specifications and plans to bid and construct <br />curbs, gutters and rehabilitate the street pavement in the identified area. City staff has reviewed <br />the completed design plans and specifications. Of the identified areas to be improved <br />approximately 21% of the project's scope of work falls within our City limits. The total project <br />is estimated at $684,771. The City's fair share of the total project cost is 21%, estimated at <br />$143,417. Attached as Exhibit A is the proposed cooperative agreement between the City of <br />Colton and San Bernardino County. Staff recommends approval of the attached agreement. If <br />approved it is estimated this project will be in construction by December 2010. <br />
