CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of May 7 , 19 91
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: David Michael Davis, City Librarian
IhD
SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO TRANSFER MONIES WITHIN Date: April 24, 1991
STATE LITERACY GRANT ACCOUNTS
BACKGROUND
The current estimated amount of actual salary expenditures in the State
funded "Advance to Literacy" accounts will be less than anticipated.
Chiefly, this is because one staff person funded from this grant was
hired to coordinate another Library grant project resulting in
significant salary savings. Such savings should be transferred to
maintenance & operations expenditure accounts to purchase books,
learning materials, and to cover on-going operations expenses.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Without a transfer, unexpended grant monies must be returned to the
State.
ALTERNATIVES
None
FINANCIAL IMPACT
None. State Grant Funded. No -cost item to City.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council authorize a transfer of $10,614 in FY
90-91 unexpended State grant funded salaries and benefits to
maintenance and operations expenditure accounts. The California State
Library has approved the use of State funds for this purpose.
The Colton Public Library Board of Trustees has reviewed this matter
and concurs with this recommendation.
City Manager's Concurrence
E
Attachments: Budget Adjustment Request
nd 'F .
