VEIVE0
DEC 10 1992
CITY OF COLTON
;ITY MANAOEF
To:
From:
Subject:
Date:
City of Colton
Police Department
Interoffice Memorandum
CNPI.
RICHARD ACEVEDO FINANCE DIRECTOR
BERNIE LUNSFORD, POLICE CAPTAIN
PURCHASE OF 1993 POLICE VEHICLES
DECEMBER 9, 1992
The police department would like to purchase six 199:
vehicles to replace current units with excessive mileage.
In past years, we have waited until dealerships were awarded
a bid from larger agencies and then offered us the same bid
price plus whatever additional equipment we required, such as
black and white paint. This has allowed us to purchase the
vehicle at the most competitive price available and still get
a vehicle with our own specifications.
Last year, we purchased 1992 Ford Crown Victoria's from Mills.
Ford of Anaheim who offered us the same price as they offered
San Bernardino County on their proposal W-42. We were Lthen
allowed to add additional equipment, including bucket seats
and black and white paint to the bid price and received
vehicles which met our needs.
There are currently only two vehicles which are manufactured
with full size police sedan specifications. They are the
Ford Crown Victoria sedan and the Chevrolet Caprice sedan.
San Bernardino County is currently going out to bid,
specifically for the Ford Crown Victoria sedan. Their
specifications are for a solid white car.
fIt is my recommendation that we wait until the bid is awarde
to a particular dealership and then approach the dealership
about purchasing six police vehicles at the same price as
v r U offered to San Bernardino County with the addition of our X
j required equipment.
Historically,, local dealerships have been unable to even come__
chose to the price offered to large agencies, such as San
Bernardino County, on full size police sedans. It should be
noted that when San Bernardino County goes out to bid on
their police vehicles, that our local dealerships will have
the opportunity to respond to that bid.
