CITY OF`,yCOLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of. �f3 <br />TO: HonorableMayor and City Council <br />FROM: Ken Herron, Director of Parks, Recreation & Human Svs. <br />SUBJECT: Request from San Bernardino Valley Municipal Date: 2/01/93 <br />Water District to place a monitoring we]1 <br />at: Municipal Park <br />BACKGROUND: <br />San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District has contracted with the <br />United States Geological Survey to conduct a study entitled "Effects of <br />Water Banking on Ground -Water Flow and Quality in the Rialto.. -Colton <br />Basin, San Bernardino County, California." The study includes geologic <br />investigation and aquifer testing. The United States Geological Survey <br />would .11ike`tu,drill one of the monitoring wells in the vicinity of <br />Colton Avenue and E Street. The City of Colton awns assessors Tarcel <br />Numbers 161-063-41 and 161-254-12, also known as Municipal Park. <br />San`Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District is requesting a permit to <br />install and maintain a monitoring well on the City of Colton's, <br />Municipal Park. The united States Geological Survey will drill the <br />well. San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District will take full <br />responsibility for the well and will maintain the monitoring equipment <br />in the welt.. The well will consist of one 9" diameter hole drilled to <br />bedrock (approximately 1,000 feet). Three to four 3" monitoring tubes <br />will be installed within the matin casing so that water levels in three <br />to four different aquifer `zones can be monitored. The drilling activity <br />will" take 7-10 days. After the completion of drilling and placing the <br />tubes, a quikset vault with traffic lid will be installed flush with the <br />existing ground, surface. The size of the traffic lid will be <br />approximately 5'5" x 314". <br />The San Bernardino Valley Water District maintains several of these <br />installations throughout the Valley. One of these is located at the <br />Casty of Rialto's Lilac Park, I have personally visited this site and <br />confirmed that the well is not a hazard for park users. This fact was <br />also confirmed by the Parks, Recreation and Social Services Director of <br />the Catty of Rialto. <br />Attachments: <br />Page" 1 of_____2_ <br />Item No. —_7__ <br />
