BACKGROUND: On May 12, 1993, the Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission reviewed the desig- nation of the following site as a Historic Landmark within the City of Colton: Landmark #34 Residence 572 North La Cadena Drive The designation for the residential dwelling was requested by the dwelling owner, Jean Irola, and is significant under the architecture and construction theme. ANALYSIS: The residential dwelling at 572 North La Cadena Drive was built between 1902 and 1907. It is an interesting example of the "Queen Anne" style with influences from both the Stick and Shingle styles. Although primarily a Queen Anne architecture, the use of gambrel roof and the shingle work in the gable end brings the influence of the Shingle style to the architecture, while the stickwork in the gable end brings the Stick style. The building is a classic example of early architectural styling. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The designation of the historic landmark will create no financial impact to the City. RECOMMENDATION: Based on the Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission's review of the historically eligible site, and their recommendation to the City Council, Staff recommends designation of Historic Landmark #34, as described above.
